Working method

I usually work on an individual basis, in a private and confidential setting, to explore a difficulty, feeling of distress, or dissatisfaction in life, providing a safe environment, listening to and encouraging clients to think clearly about their situation and perhaps consider a new perspective.

Instead of giving advice I prefer to help to enable the client to choose freely a way forward by reducing confusion and promoting understanding of their perspectives and behaviour.

By the use of an integrated counselling approach (consisting of person centred, cognitive, psychodynamic, humanistic) the typical work activities include:

• establishing a relationship of trust and respect with clients;
• listening;
• accepting without bias the issues raised by clients;
• helping clients to identify their current and underlying concerns;
• encouraging clients to think more clearly about their situation and perhaps consider taking a new perspective;
• helping clients to make decisions and choices regarding possible ways forward;
• referring clients to other sources of help, as appropriate;
